Not to be confused with Gift of Life Housing Centers (the free housing program that often is referred to as “Gift of Life”), Caring For Our Own is a Benefis employee/volunteer compassion fund administered by Benefis Healthcare Foundation. It’s Benefis people helping Benefis people in times of crisis, which may consist of financial, emotional or physical circumstances.
Several dozen employees and volunteers have been helped with thousands and thousands of dollars since the Caring For Our Own program began in 1999. It’s pretty special.
Here is what one recent recipient, who chose to remain anonymous, had to say about it:
“This enabled us to purchase a few items for our children for Christmas as well as pay off the remaining balance at the funeral home.
“I would like to thank each person for their generosity and compassionate gift. When unexpected life-altering events occur, many burdens are the result, whether they are burdens of the heart and soul or financial in nature. Unfortunately, everything has a cost… that to takes its toll on the heart and soul and pocket.
“Thank you so very much for this ‘gift of life.’ We are able to face the new day a little easier at times.”
